Olutayo Sogunro, DO, MS, FACOS, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon breast surgical oncologist at Johns Hopkins Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD. She is an assistant professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT with her bachelor’s degree in biology and obtained her master’s in biology from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT. She earned her medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM-Virginia) in Blacksburg, VA. She completed her general surgery training at Ohio University at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, OH. She was recently practicing general surgery in rural Texas and then acute care surgery and trauma surgery in Bridgeport, CT. She decided to transition her career into breast surgical oncology. She completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. During her previous years of clinical practice as both a community general surgeon and as an acute care and trauma surgeon, she was involved in various hospital-based quality improvement projects. She is a member of the Quality Initiatives Committee of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. Her research interests include triple negative breast cancer, male breast cancer, breast cancer genetics, surgical quality, and health disparities.
