Gerard Baltazar DO FACOS FACS graduated with a degree in biology and fine arts from Georgetown University where he received the Howard Hughes Medical Research and John Carroll emerging leader scholarships. He earned an osteopathic medical degree from Touro University California, garnering awards for community service and student life before completing general surgical residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center of Weill Cornell Medicine and surgical critical care fellowship at Rutgers University in Newark.
Dr. Baltazar serves as Faculty Attending in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and as Medical Unit Director of the largest surgical unit of NYU Langone Hospital--Long Island. He is also the Department of Surgery's Wellness Ambassador and Chair of the Patient Experience Committtee as well as Assistant Professor of Surgery at NYU Long Island School of Medicine .
Regionally, Dr. Baltazar is Secretary for the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society and is on the Speakers Bureau for NYITCOM. Nationally, Dr. Baltazar serves on research and mentorship committees for the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and CME planning committees for the ACOS, including being a founding member of the ACOS inclusion, diversity, equity and access committee. He has been an oral board examiner for the AOBS for five years.
Dr. Baltazar aims to integrate multidisciplinary knowledge and skills into his clinical and academic work. This has led to the development of a chest wall injury reconstruction program and creation of an osteopathic manipulative treatment clinic dedicated to the care of injured patients at NYU Langone Health. His publications and lectures reflect the confluence of contemporary surgical concepts, historical context and holistic mindset.
