Dr. Maureen Darwal is a native of Brecksville, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate degree in Zoology with a minor in Molecular Biology from Miami University. She went on to medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her neurosurgery residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Darwal received advanced fellowship training in open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery as well as neurocritical care at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Darwal has more than 20 publications and presentations focusing on a range of topics – including minimally invasive spine surgery, carotid stent techniques, flow diversion for aneurysms, chronic subdural hematoma, neuromodulation, and nerve damage – to her credit. She recently published a series of operative endovascular videos for Operative Neurosurgery. Dr. Darwal is as passionate about being at the forefront of new advances in neurosurgery as she is about taking care of her patients.
